Schoharie

Picture
Picture

These paintings are distillations of experiences with places found within regions of Schoharie County, NY. They are in part reflections of perennial feeling and emotion for this intimate, strangely beautiful valley, resonant with human and natural history. The influence of glaciers is evident, being surrounded by terrain of unusual and puzzling forms. The presence in this landscape is palpable, defined as much by a Stone Age implement or a glacial cobble picked from a field as it is by farmers of all kinds who manage to keep their ground open, continually transforming the valley into gardens, and leaving temporary if not remarkable patterns upon the earth.

The grace which is found here, through devotion by many who came before and by those who care for this place presently, is fertile - the Soul of a landscape, sustaining curiosity and creative effort.
