Hudson River Valley - Schoharie
These paintings are recordings and distillations of experiences with places found within regions of Schoharie County, NY. They are in part reflections of perennial feeling and emotion for this intimate, strangely beautiful territory, resonant with human and natural history. Being surrounded by terrain of unusual and puzzling forms, the influence of glaciers is still evident.
The presence of landscape here is palpable, defined as much by a Stone Age implement or a glacial cobble picked from a field as it is by farmers of all kinds who manage to keep their ground open, continually transforming the valley into gardens, leaving temporary if not remarkable patterns upon the earth. The grace which is found here--- through the devotion for this valley by many who came before and by those who care for this place presently, is fertile - the Soul of a landscape, sustaining curiosity and creative effort.
